DOHLLS

DOHLLS is a series of wooden toys that were inspired by the diversity of Doha. Specifically, the dolls examine the prevalence of sports in Doha culture, and draw shape from various sporting equipment to create their forms. The upper half of each doll is informed by unique sporting objects that are relevant to Qatar; a falcon helmet, a camel racing jockey, a badminton shuttle, and a bowling pin. The lower half of each doll, however, is a ball, representing a common thread across most sports. The colors of the balls are derived from some of the most popular sports among the nationalities in Doha; football, cricket, tennis, and basketball. The dolls are all made of wood on either a manual or a CNC lathe, and the wood was stained and painted on a manual lathe.
